About the organisation
The EMERGE Alaska (Enhancing Marine Ecosystem Research and Graduate Education in Alaska) Program aims to enhance graduate education and marine ecosystem research in Alaska, and contribute to a well-prepared workforce in the marine sciences. The program is anchored on four interactive components: academic training, research and innovation, professional development, and student success support. EMERGE Alaska is housed in the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), which has three departments: Fisheries, Marine Biology, and Oceanography.
About the role
EMERGE Alaska is recruiting 12 PhD students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences to start in May or August 2026. EMERGE Alaska is an NSF funded program for students who received an Honorable Mention on the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) during the last 3 years. Successful applicants are fully funded for three years.
Requirements
- Named an NSF GRFP Honorable Mention no more than three calendar years prior to this application (no earlier than Spring 2022). GRFP HM status is subject to verification by NSF.
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident. Status is subject to verification.
- Intend to enroll or be enrolled full-time in an EGFP designated institution/program at the start of the fellowship.
- Have not previously accepted a GRFP or EGFP Fellowship.
- Not be a current NSF employee.
